Started sailing on the Sun Oil July 1960 as a wiper. Don't remember too many names John Barbosa, Ernie McCain,Frank Ferris, Frank Sill to name a few. Before I got married I shared a home with Bill Hulton who was a Quartermaster on several of the ships and barges. I am one of the Hershey boys that E.T. Moore used to recruit each year to work at sun Ted Johnson was one also, as well as many others.
Neil St Clair and I became good friends having sailed together for a couple of years first as fireman and oiler shearing a room on the t-2s then as oiler and 3rd engineer, all on the Maryland Sun. What a great experiance that ship was, nothing worked properly and it was mostly operated by sense of feel and trial and error.Neil and I had decided if she ever broke up we would stay with the stern and could still navigate in reverse from the emergency station on the aft deck. I don't think that would really happen Lol
Over the years I worked on most of the Boats was on the Texas Sun in 67 when I went to a shore job at Boeing Vertol
